Welome to my web site. Please forgive the temporary broken links, as I am in the process of getting the site up and running over the next few days. But here is some information to get things started.
I am Bob Giaquinta, and I am running for the House of Representatives from the Third District of Nevada. I am running as a candidate of the Green Party of Nevada.
I am an ordinary citizen who is frustrated with the government that controls us. I would like to get some sanity into government in regards to big business, the environment, defense, transparency, morality, foreign policy, honesty, and human rights. I am not a career politician, but I do have a good knowledge of what is happening and would like to voice both your and my opinions in Congress. I will try to give examples of the foolishness of both major parties, and how they are controlled by big business.
My feeling is that a fifteen second TV ad does not address what politics is about. All it does is give name recognition, but does not discuss any of the important questions. I am sure that my opponents will spend hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars for this name recognition. I intend to have small group “town hall” meetings where I can tell you about my views and possible solutions, and ask you about your interests and your opinions.
I don’t care if you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or have any other affiliation. We can’t be naïve and trust the platforms of the major parties, which are usually discarded after the elections. We must put that which is best for peoples of the United States, and the world, before party affiliations. I will discuss the untouchables, such as Social Security, Medicare, and taxes. None of you, or myself, will like some of the solutions offered, but we can’t bury our heads in the sand. If you are a member of a major party, and read some of the issues at this site or attend one of my discussions, you might want to ask your present party’s candidate some pertinent questions. Governing should be predicated on the strong principals, practical wisdom, making tough choices, and transparency.
People say, “Oh the Green Party, aren’t you guys the environmentalists?”. Yes that is part of our platform, but the Green Party has what we call our Ten Key Value, with a link on this page, which are the general principles of our platform. To be more specific, and to inform you about me, and my platform, there are several links below:

The Iraq War
As most of you know, we were duped into this war. It has cost us a trillion dollars, over 4,000 American soldiers dead, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dead and millions displaced, and 30,000 injured Americans. It is both moral and economic stupidity. It is no longer a war but an occupation. You can’t win an occupation, you stay and suffer the consequences, or leave. We must leave as soon as is feasibly possible. For an in depth discussion go to Our Mismanaged War in Iraq.
The Environment
Hopefully it is not too late to get started, but global warming can alter the future of our planet as we know it. Mother nature is the most powerful force that we know, and our aiding of global warming must be addressed now. For an in depth discussion go to The Environment.
Civil Rights
The Constitution and Bill of Rights have been assaulted in the past seven years. Both the personal rights and governmental balance of power are being eroded. Executive power is becoming so strong that it is endangering our constitution. For an in depth discussion go to Democracy?.
Social Security and Medicare
These two entitlement expenditures are about one third of federal spending. No one wants to talk about this subject, especially politicians, but it must be addressed now, or these systems may totally collapse. For an in depth discussion go to essay "Social Security and Medicare".
Abortion
This is a very perplexing issue. However, I believe a Congressman is not going to have a say in the outcome. The Supreme Court will decide this issue. If they overturn Roe vs. Wade the decisions will probably be turned over to the individual states. Personally, if a member of my family, or a friend had a choice to be made, I would try to dissuade them from performing an abortion, however I probably lean to supporting individual’s rights. One of the problems is that if a woman really wants an abortion, she will usually succeed in her attempt. If she has to go underground, if abortion is declared illegal, her life may be in greater jeopardy due to improper treatment. The whole situation can be avoided with proper education and the use of contraceptive devices that will eliminate unwanted pregnancies. Then the questions arise; what about rape victims, deformed babies with no chance of survival, or when a mother’s life is endangered by the pregnancy? A tough question.
Biography
I was born on June 23,1942 in The Bronx N.Y. My formative years were spent in Brooklyn and Queens N.Y., as a member of a lower middleclass family. I attended John Adams High School and graduated with a Regents Diploma in 1960. During my junior year of high school, at the age of 16, I attended a cosmetology school. I attended high school from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and left home at 5:15 PM to take a bus to cosmetology school, which ran from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM, and returned home at 11:15 PM. Saturdays I worked as a “shampoo boy” for $5 a day, which I gave to my father, who was a hairdresser. I did most of my high school homework on the bus trips.
This may sound crazy, but I was the first person in my extended family to even contemplate attending college. Coming from an Italian/American family, one of the axioms is to have a profession; to fall back on when you can’t make it in college, or to help pay the college bill if you don’t fail out. I received my cosmetology license at the age of 17.
I applied to three colleges, never even going to the campus to check them out. I was accepted to the College of the City of New York, CCNY, in Harlem, which I attended from 1960 to 1964. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. I also enrolled in the ROTC program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. The ROTC program gave us a paycheck each month, which along with my working as a hairdresser on weekends, paid my college costs. This was not an ordinary college experience, since I commuted three hours a day, by subway, to and from school. The only time that I was on campus was when I was attending classes or studying.
In December 1964 I was accepted to New York University College of Dentistry. I continued working as a hairdresser on weekends, and during our summer breaks I worked full time driving a Canada Dry (soda) truck, and became a member of the Teamsters Union. These jobs along with governmental loans, which I paid back, helped finance my dental school expenses.
Upon receiving my doctorate, Doctor of Dental Surgery, I was called to active duty, which was postponed while I was in dental school. I served two years as a Captain in the US Army at Ft, Irwin California, which is just outside of Barstow California. I’m pretty sure that I am the only hairdresser-teamster-army captain-dentist around.
In 1972 I opened my own dental practice in Whippany, N.J., and practiced there for thirty years. In 1984 I became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. This honor requires 500 hours of continuing education, five years of membership in the Academy, and passing of a test. Once it is bestowed, a certain amount of continuing education courses must be taken for its upkeep. There is no specialty in general dentistry, but this is one way of showing your intent to be the best that you can be.
I coached community baseball and soccer teams, with the athletes ranging from 8-17 years of age. I was also the head or assistant coach of Rutgers University Ice Hockey Team for nine years. During this time we were invited to our division national championship tournament three times. Unfortunately we never won, but we had a great time, and were a team that was well respected.
In 2002 I moved to Nevada and opened a part time dental practice to keep myself involved.
In 2005 I joined the Green Party of Nevada, and became a Member at Large of the Executive Council. I have recently been elected Treasurer of the state party.
I enjoy reading, history and science being my favorite subjects, all non-fiction. I have not read a novel since 1964. My heritage, coming from Italian/peasant stock, has instilled in me a certain need for having something physically constructive done every day. That is why I love my profession. I am an artisan. I enjoy oil painting, furniture making, I do most of my own plumbing, electrical, and carpentry, there’s nothing like ripping down a wall and reconstructing it. I also play golf, there is nothing constructive about that game, that’s probably why I’m not too good at it.
I am running for office so that the “little guy” might have a say in our government, or at least help him understand how and why he is being affected by our government. I believe that I have the knowledge and the aptitude to start making a difference. My scientific background can be summed up in one sentence. Every action has a reaction. My experience in diagnosis is to define the problem and determine its cause, and then fix it. That is the way I will try to look at government.
